Tempting Marcus

Mercenary Heat Bk 1

by Jan Graham

Genre – Romantic Suspense

Blurb

A mission is underway, and in the mercenary game, timing is everything.

Beth has spent the last four years trying to tempt Marcus into her bed so why decide now that it’s make or break with him? The excuses have faded. She’s no longer too young, too innocent, or too naïve about the job. She’s lead on their current assignment, success and failure rests with her. Maybe that’s why she’s decided it’s also time to make one last ditched attempt to secure the man she wants in her life. Marcus Delany, her boss and a mercenary who claims to have no heart.

Not wanting Bethany isn’t the problem. Marcus wants her with every fiber of his being, he just won’t allow himself to give into temptation and have her. For Marcus it’s not about her age or experience, it’s not even about his ability or desire to make Bethany his own. It’s about loss. If he refuses to have her then he can’t lose her. His first life lesson as a mercenary was a harsh one. Loving with all your heart makes you vulnerable. That’s not what he wants to be. He’s been there, done that, and the T-shirt wore out long ago.

Excerpt

The permanent distraction in his life would arrive home soon. He needed to decide whether to proceed with his pursuit of her or not. Not that the pursuit would be a long one, Beth already made it clear, she was his if he wanted her.

I want you, Beth, I just don’t know how to have you. Thinking back on his words that night, Marcus knew she hadn’t understood what he’d been trying to say. Things would have to change if they stood any chance of maintaining a relationship. Whether he wanted to implement those modifications, and if Beth would agree to them, remained to be seen. Resisting the urge to take her to his bed wore thin. He’d denied himself so much over the years, all because of fear. The fear of history repeating, fear of something happening to someone he loved. Adrian was right, it was no way to live.

“I’ve missed that scowl so much,” Nik stated sarcastically as he sat on the bench next to Marcus. “Did one of the guys steal your dummy, so you can’t spit it at anyone?”

“Not in the mood, Nik,” Marcus snapped.

“Clearly,” Nik quipped before taking on a more serious tone. “What’s up, Boss?”

Marcus leaned forward, bracing his arms on his thighs, clasping his hands together as he stared at the ground. His gut churned with worry. Hindsight was a wonderful thing. If he’d accepted his need for Beth twelve even six or three months ago, none of them
would be in the position they were now. It was too late to cancel the mission. Beth was in imminent danger because of him, and there was no way out.

My Review

Sheer, unadulterated perfection! ~ 5 stars PLUS PLUS!

And breathe… I was completely and utterly blown away by this book and Alexander, oh, how I fell in love with him! I have been reading erotica/bdsm themed novels for the past decade or more and Alexandra Iff  excels in this genre. The Collar of Freedom (the first book in the Collar Duet), is both emotional and intense, containing smoking hot scenes and an unforgettable story and couple. It also brings to life every fantasy you could ever have about a sexy boss or co-worker, with lashings of metaphorical cream on top!

The heroine, Amelia is trapped, trapped by a promise she made to her dying sister, to look after her nephews and her life is dedicated to their well-being. It it is not until Alexandra Reeves, her new boss, bursts into her workplace, invading her space and her mind, that she is compelled to reflect on the humdrum nature of her life. I hugely enjoyed the games the sexy and dominant Alexander and Amelia engage in as the former opens her eyes to the many possibilities offered by her submission. Their attraction is instantaneous and I can honestly say, the sexual tension between these two characters just leaps off the page – it is superb and most definitely got my knickers in a twist and rocked my world!

Yet just what does Alexander want?  Does Amelia want to surrender control to this man, control that under his hands she is beginning to crave? And what of Alexander? Despite his wealth and influence it is not a given that Amelia will fall into his lap –  she, despite her insecurities, challenges him like no other woman has before. Both must battle with their responsibilities and issues from their past and the emotional conflict inherent in their relationship is well executed and I was rooting for them throughout.

There are some exceedingly naughty and imaginative scenes of passion frustration and desire as the couple strive to secure a future together despite all their baggage.  The author has a lyrical way of writing, capturing the beauty and intensity of each moment. I enjoyed how this contrasted with the occasional humour which the characters and situations are apt to express. There are some expertly placed plot twists that add a frisson of suspense to the plot and I’m looking forward to reading the conclusion to their story in The Collar of Sacrifice.

If you love erotica and erotic romance as much as I do you will not want to miss this book. It is sheer, unadulterated perfection.

Book Synopsis

I’m the first-born son of the mafia king. The favorite. Destined to rule, I’m a dangerous man, a ruthless one. But in my world, you have to be.

Then Natalie stumbles into my life. Wrong place. Wrong time.

Twice, fate put her in my path.
Twice, fate placed the innocent lamb at the mercy of the monster.

I gave her a chance to walk away. Told her it would be better for her if she did.
But she didn’t listen.
And now it’s too late.
Because I’m not good. I never wanted to be. And I won’t let her go anymore. See, I’m not the hero. When I touch her, it’s with dirty hands.

I know my reckoning is coming though. I know I’ll burn for the things I’ve done, the sins I’ve committed. And I don’t deny hell is where I belong, but I want my time first. I want my time with her.

She’s mine.
Forever.
No matter what.

Author’s Note: Sergio: a Dark Mafia Romance is an intensely emotional, steamy and dark standalone romance set in the Benedetti Brothers Mafia world. Be prepared: this is not a traditional romance.

Excerpt: Natalie’s POV

I unlock the door and step inside. The first thing I do is slip off my shoes, leaving them on the mat as I walk to the kitchen table to set down the portfolio. I realize it’s strange Pepper didn’t greet me tonight. I’m later than usual and she’s probably hungry.

“Pepper, I’m home. Sorry I’m late. You wouldn’t believe my day.” I walk around the table to open the cabinet under the sink and get her food. “Come on, honey. Dinner.”

Nothing. Not even when she must hear the sound of food filling her bowl.

I stop. “Pepper?” My heart races. Shit. She’s so old. What if…

I straighten, thinking the worst, and turn to head into the living room. I switch on the light and let out a scream because I’m not alone.
Sergio’s here. Sitting in the middle of the couch, arms spread wide, eyes hard.

And right now, he looks like a fucking Godfather.

Pepper’s on the floor, her head on his shoe, sleeping.

“I fed her.” He’s pissed, I can hear it in his voice, feel it coming off him. There’s a half empty bottle of whiskey on the coffee table.
“What are you doing here? How did you get in?”

“She was hungry.”

“How did you get inside?” I repeat. I can match his anger.

“I told you I had a key.”

Fuck. That’s what he’d meant last night. “You can’t have a key. I never gave you one.”

“You switched off your phone.”

I walk over to Pepper, squat down to pet her. I don’t look at him when I answer. “Because I didn’t want to talk to you.”

“When I call you, you answer.”

“Doesn’t work that way.” I say, standing, spinning on my heel. I’m about to walk away when he captures my wrist, his grip firm, more firm than he’s ever been with me. I make a sound, try to pull free, but he tugs on my arm, kicks my feet out from under me so I fall face down onto his lap. “What are you—”

He slaps my ass hard ten times in succession.

I’m gasping, instinctively reaching back to cover the spot. He captures my wrist, so he has both now, and holds them in one of his hands. I crane my neck to look up at him. He keeps his eyes locked on mine and rubs one hand over my ass, then spanks it again, ten more times on the other cheek.

“Stop!” It fucking hurts.

“When I call you, you answer, Natalie.”

I tug at my arms, but his grip is vice-like.

“Do you understand?” he asks.

“Let me go.”

“Do you fucking understand?”

“Yes!”

He gives me one more hard smack before releasing me, and I stumble to my feet. I feel hot, embarrassed, and I’m clutching my ass.

“I just want you safe.” He gets to his feet.

I step backward.

He’s wearing a suit, the jacket of which is hanging over the back of a chair. He gently moves Pepper’s head off his foot before he walks toward me.

I’m mute as he approaches. There’s a darkness to Sergio Benedetti. It clings to him, like a shadow. It’s the one thing that scares me about him because I trust that he won’t hurt me. And I believe that he wants me safe. I may not understand it, but I believe it.
But this shadow, it’s not one he casts. The opposite. It seems to cast itself over him. To have a claim on him. Some strange, powerful hold over him.

My Review ~ 5 stars

Heartbreakingly Beautiful!

Having read Natasha Knight’s Salvatore, which also tells the story of the Benedetti Brothers, I knew full well what to expect with this read, yet wondered if I was up to it. After some days of procrastination, I put on my big girl pants, girded my loins and dived in. Well let me tell you, the author has TOTALLY SLAIN me with Sergio and Natalie’s story, but I am so glad that I have read it. This dark and intense alpha deserved his story and his legacy.

In classic Natasha Knight style I was drawn into the read from the start. Once again the author effortlessly transported me to the turbulent and violent life of the mafia world in which Sergio, as his father’s heir, is very much a part. It is bloody and vicious and enemies lurk waiting for a chance to strike and exploit any weakness.

Natalie and Sergio are drawn together like the proverbial moth to the flame and their chemistry is palpable, reflected in every look, every touch and every word uttered between them. The author has a unique way of writing her alpha males and the dark, tortured character of Sergio is the perfect foil for Natalie’s inner strength and innocence. Destiny brought them together not once, but twice and their story is a beautiful one, but there are shadows which persist and grow alongside their love. The story is both heartbreaking and beyond beautiful and even as I sensed the ever present darkness draw in, I could not stop reading until the conclusion.

I am however flailing in its wake, overcome with emotion. I know I will have to pick myself up, but what to read next? Sergio is an intense read that will pull at the heartstrings and will remain with you.

Recommended for lovers of dark romance and tortured heroes, especially if you love mafia romances.

*REVIEW* ~ The Mobster’s Girl, by Lily Harlem

#erotic #romanticsuspense #mafia #mobster #romance

Adult/18+ read

Blurb

When the going gets tough, Beth Rammada has no choice but to get the hell out of Chicago. Her family is sinking fast and she’s at risk of being used as bait to hurt her father.

But living on the streets of New York is no walk in the park, until that is, she’s taken under the rather dubious wing of Roper Hermanus. He’s rough and hard and likes it kinky, or so he says. But should she stick around and help her sexy new friend turn a few tricks? Or should she be running for the hills?

As their journey reveals secrets, Beth falls for the man who’s shown her a new side to her erotic self. It seems their demons are compatible—the underworld, extortion and blackmail is their currency.

That is, until the biggest secret of all has to be announced to their families. Will Beth’s life ever be the same again? Does she want it to be? And will her mobster lover be there when she needs him most?

My Review – Hot and down and dirty read! ~ 5 stars

I LOVED this fast paced and oh so sexy erotic romantic suspense from Lily Harlem. It’s perfect if you fancy a quick, hot and down and dirty read! Mobster Roper is all alpha male and likes it hot, hard and rough, but has a heart of gold when he takes pity on Beth, a young homeless woman in New York and offers her a meal and a room for the night.

Roper is willing to take all Beth offers him (what man could refuse?) in what starts off as a no strings attached arrangement. Neither are looking for a permanent relationship. For her part, Beth is profoundly grateful for his gifts of a hot meal, a warm bed and a roof over her head, after months of being destitute. The hot sex is a bonus she soon becomes addicted to. Roper is all man and introduces her to some mad, bad and distinctly addictive type of loving she can’t get enough of. So what if he is a bad man!

Their no strings arrangement soon develops into something deeper. However, things soon come to a head as unbeknown to Roper Beth is on the run from a complicated and dangerous past. Beth has welcomed the anonymity of New York as she has needed to lie low for the benefit of preserving her own life and that of her family. This is all about to change…

Beth discovers that Roper’s past and present is not as far removed from her own. Just how will Roper react when he finds out the truth about Beth and what she represents? Will he protect her or sacrifice her?

I enjoyed the premise of the plot and Lily Harlem uses it to create a hero and heroine who find that they have lots more in common than they first envisaged. The lovemaking scene between them are scorching as Roper introduces Beth to his love of kink and hot, dirty and raw sex!

Recommended for fans of erotic romance who love tales on the wild side.

*REVIEW* – Captive Beauty, by Natasha Knight

#fairytaleretelling #romanticsuspense #eroticromance

Blurb

Cilla

The Beast had Belle.
Killian Black has me.

How I got here doesn’t matter, even though he says it does. Says it was my choice. He doesn’t get it, though. It wasn’t ever a choice for me.

And now, he’s changing the rules.

The agreement was one month. For thirty days, I’d be his. He’s no longer satisfied with my body alone, though. He wants my soul, too. Wants every part of me. And even though I can pretend I’m safe when I lie beneath him, this man does something to me. Something wicked.

A thing that will break me.

Killian

Cilla made the choice. She offered the deal. I just took her up on it. So what if I changed the rules half-way in? I’m not apologizing for it.

See, Cilla and me, we’re the same. She’s dark. As dark as me. Something happened to her. Something bad. It damaged her.

But it’s not a hero she seeks. It’s an avenging angel. A dark knight. That, I can do. I’ll slay her dragons, but it’ll cost her, because in return, I want everything. And I’ll take it.

She’s mine.

Author’s note: Captive Beauty is a standalone romance. Think Beauty and the Beast, but twisted and dark in the best, dirtiest ways.

My Review

Freaking Fabulous – 5 Stars ***** TOP READ

I just loved this latest release Captive Beauty, by Natasha Knight, one of my go to author’s when I want to read about exceedingly dark alphas and complex and damaged characters. It was not only a delicious panty melting read, but it was based on one of my favourite romance tropes – Beauty and the Beast. I one-clicked and devoured it with gusto at the first opportunity.

To save her brother from a serious kicking (and possibly worse) for daring to cross mob boss Killian Black, Cilla feels compelled to offer herself instead as recompese. She soon finds that she has signed herself over to the devil for 30 days to do exactly what he wants to her… For this woman who likes to keep men at an emotional distance she soon finds herself challenged by the darkness and intensity that Killian personifies. Killian is one hell of a dominant and likes very much to keep Cilla in her place. They are so well matched. as Cilla is feisty and certainly no pushover however, and I hugely enjoyed their battle of wills and the sex scenes truly sizzle!

The hero, or rather the anti-hero Killian Black is such a worthy beast: a remorseless mob boss with no scruples, a deliciously dark alpha. Yet Killian has his own inner demons to slay, feeling tormented that he could not protect an innocent from his past. The connection he forges with Cilla is profound and I loved that Killian is drawn to the darkness that he senses in her. He is determined to peel away her layers and discover what she is hiding. Yet Cilla is determined to keep her secrets at all cost, even when she enlists him to avenge a past wrong. As for Cilla, I loved that even as she struggles to submit to him she begins to enjoy his wicked attentions and very wicked they are too – cue serious hotness Natasha Knight style! My heart bled for what both these characters had endured.

I adore how this author delved deeply into their respective characters and slowly revealed their respective pasts. The attraction between Killian and Cilla was palpable from the off and increases in intensity as the read progresses.  I was glued to the pages as I waited to find out whether their darkness would tear them apart or whether together they could slay their respective demons and together find resolution. It was unclear whether Killian’s actions would help Cilla find closure or somehow destroy them both.

The book contains a number of triggers, as you would expect with a dark romance, but they are integral to the plot and the character development. The writing, narrated in dual POV, flows beautifully. The book is an intense, emotional rollercoaster for Killian and Cilla and I enjoyed accompanying them on the ride.

This thoroughly addictive and sizzling dark romance, is without a doubt a superb read for lovers of the genre.

*REVIEW* ~ Split Decision, by Carmen Capuano

#comingofage #youngadult #romance #thriller

Book Blurb

How was Natalie to know that the decision she was about to make between two potential dates, would forever be a pivotal point in her life? That it would mark the time where childhood innocence ended? How could she even imagine that the wrong decision would send her life spiralling into the stuff of nightmares from where she might not come out alive? Life takes a cruel twist of fate when Natalie, a completely average [almost] 16 year old, is forced to make a split-second decision… a decision that will change her future and forever alter her perception of trust, love and the realities of life.

My Review

Brilliant and Brutal Coming-of-Age Story – 5 stars

Split Decision, essentially a coming-of-age novel, is both brilliant and brutal – brilliant in its execution and brutal in the sensitive subject matter it explores. The decision Natalie makes impacts on many and she is not the same person at the end of the story as she is at the beginning… It is the second book that I have read by the author Carmen Capuano, the first being Ascension, a dystopian thriller (click on the book title for the review). Although the subject matter is completerly different, I found the story just as engaging and thought- provoking.

The plot begins in a shoe shop where best friends, teenagers Natalie and Stacey are shopping. The new pair of shoes which Natalie purchases – in a style which is way out of character for the sensible teenager, can be viewed as a metaphor for both her step into adulthood and what subsequently occurs. Natalie is soon called upon to make a split second choice and her decision heralds a chain of unexpected and shocking events.

The author does an excellent job of depicting the trials and tribulations of the teenage years and how they effect existing and new relationships: a time of burgeoning sexuality, when we strive to forge our own identity, sometimes putting us in conflict with our families who find it difficult to come to terms with their offspring entering adulthood. The balance between protecting their children whilst allowing them the freedom to grow is often a difficult one and I felt that the author touched on this in a sensitive fashion. I certainly identified with Stacey and Natalie from memories of my own teenage years and recognised how easily events could take the path they did.

The characters, the young people and the adults, were all very believable and the author is to be congratulated on using the events to illustrate their personal growth and changing family dynamics. The plot is cleverly and expertly written and certainly had me guessing and questioning my own preconceptions and prejudices.

All in all a super read.

*REVIEW* – Hiding in Plain Sight, by Lucy Felthouse

#romance #espionage #romanticsuspense

Adult content

Book Blurb

Mallory Scott is an espionage operative, working for the British government. She’s travelled all over the world, often going undercover and infiltrating criminal organisations in order to extract the intelligence needed to dismantle their operations and bring the perpetrators to justice. Given her usual targets are terrorists, people-traffickers, drug-traffickers and arms dealers, her latest assignment should be relatively simple. A small group of Brits is raking in serious money in the diamond-scamming business—and although their MO is theft and forgery, rather than hurting people, they still need to be stopped. But up until now, they’ve proved elusive—no one can catch them in the act, or find a shred of evidence against them.

That’s where Mallory comes in. She follows the group to Amsterdam, planning to get her claws in to one of the gang. Luck is on her side, and within twenty-four hours she’s lunching with Baxter Collinson, the youngest—and most handsome—diamond thief. What she’s not expecting, however, is to get on with him quite so well. Attraction bubbles between them—and for once, on Mallory’s part, it isn’t an act. For the first time in her career, Mallory struggles with what she must do.

Can she ignore her heart for the sake of her career?

My Review – 5 stars

Fun and sexy romantic suspense!

A super romantic suspense from Lucy Felthouse. Mallory’s work as an espionage operative is often dangerous and she fully expects her latest assignment, that of gathering evidence to take down a group of diamond thieves, to be a doddle. She has absolutely no qualms about using her feminine wiles to entrap one of the gang’s members, the young and handsome Baxter Collinson. All goes to plan except she makes an immediate connection to Baxter and begins to lose her heart in the process… For the first time she feels guilty about the role she has played in a criminal’s impending arrest and incarceration and she is torn.

I won’t delve any more into the plot but suffice to say I LOVED the unexpected twist. Do the couple have a future? How will Baxter view Mallory’s deceit? Can Mallory continue to maintain her professional detachment towards the very man who has made her question her actions?

I adored Mallory, a strong woman and a consummate professional, dedicated to her work as an undercover agent – she reminded me of a female James Bond as she enjoys her job and has a healthy attitude when it comes to sex! As for Baxter, he is both SO sexy and cheeky and has a fantastic sense of humour – it is no wonder Mallory falls for him. I really felt for him when he realises that Mallory deliberately orchestrated their relationship.

The characters are realistic and I easily identified with their emotions – I particularly loved the banter and the scenes between the main couple. It’s also got plenty of smexy and sizzling scenes which the author excels at.

Recommended for readers of romantic suspense who enjoy a read which contains some sexy and explicit scenes.

*REVIEW* ~ Blaire Dark Romance (Part 1), by Anita Gray

#darkromance #suspense #psychological #bdsm

Book Blurb

BLAIRE: part 1 in the Dark Romance Series

Bought. Conditioned.

My name is Blaire. I’m head of security to a man who controls the Russian underworld in Europe. His name is Maksim and he’s my master. He bought me ten years ago and conditioned me with brutality to worship and protect him. And I have protected him. I’ve slain everyone who has tried to do him harm. Everyone but a man he loans me to; a man who threatens to break me and everything I believe in.

You’re going to need a strong stomach and a strong heart to follow my story, because take my word for it, it’s no fairy tale.

My Review

Totally Amazing Dark Read! – 5 stars

What can I say? I was GLUED to this AMAZING dark, psychological read. I am a self-confessed book whore when it comes to dark  reads and I put this up there amongst the best. It has an original plot line and in Blaire and Charlie the author has created a truly awesome couple – their relationship is complex and intense and the scenes between them range from deliciously dark to sweet. I need to point out that it contains some brutal scenes of violence, physical and sexual in the book (dubious and non consent, bdsm, torture and abuse) which are not for the faint hearted.

Blaire is one of the most kick-ass and lethal females I have come across of late yet she is so vulnerable. I wept for her as the plot unfolded and little by little we leared about her history and Maskim’s role in it. The way the author drip feeds this information adds to the suspense and I was gob smacked when I learned about her past.

I ADORED Charlie – just what is his game? What hold does he have over Maskim? Can Charlie protect Blaire or is he just exploiting her too? Will Blaire overcome Maskim’s conditioning or is it too ingrained in her psyche? Will Charlie succeed in breaking her hard exterior to reveal the woman beneath and how will this impact on her? Will his kindness save her or lead to her destruction? I was fascinated with the psychology of the relationships in his book and if you love dark romance as much as I’d encourage you do add it to your ‘to read pile.’ I’m relieved that part 2 of Blaire’s story is out at the end of this month so that I can see what happens next.
