Get a glimpse of Dschinnanya – 2

Readers that havent’t yet read part 1 of the “Creatures of Fire Series”, can get a glimpse to see what it is like to be in Dschinnanya. This is an excerpt from “Creatures of Fire: Demons die harder“:

“There is the entrance to Dschinnanya,” Saraswati said, pointing to the exit of the canyon. At first Sariel couldn’t see much; mist was rising in the distance, not allowing her to see what was on the other side of the two rock walls that marked the entrance to the world of the demons.

“Have you ever been there?”

“Only once,” Saraswati replied.

“How will I be able to find Alexander’s mentor?”

“Oh, that’s easy.” She smiled. “Focus on who you want to visit, then you will be led the way. It’s about the only thing that is easy in Dschinnanya. The town itself changes its appearance each day and sometimes even more often than that. Today it may seem like an Italian village and tomorrow you might find yourself in the middle of the desert. The day after that it might resemble an island. You will never be able to recognize a building you have visited the day before. The demons that live there pass their time thinking of new looks for their town. They don’t have much else to do.”

“Where would you look for the information we need in order to rid Alexander of the seal?”

“At the library of the centuries. There everything is archived that has even been written about demons. It is the only place where you will find that kind of knowledge. It is also forbidden to you. Without permission you will not be able to enter.”

“I should have known,” Sariel said with a sigh. Then she bowed. “I was honored to have you as a trainer. Thank you very much for taking me on as a student and for helping me!”

Saraswati bowed as well. “It was my pleasure and my honor.” The demon removed a ring from her left hand and gave it to Sariel. “Take this. It will help you if you really are in trouble. But use it wisely.”

We wish Birgit good luck with her project and thank her for sharing it with us – Dschinannya definitely sounds worth saving! 🙂

Author post/biog by Tim O’Rourke

Moonbeam (The Moon Trilogy, #2)Hi guys, following our review of Moonbeam (The Moon Trilogy, Book 2) we have a fantastic author post/biog from my favourite author, Tim O’Rourke! We would like to thank Tim for taking the time to write this for A Reader’s Review Blog. We hope you all enjoy this treat as much as we did. Over to you, Tim :-

“I started writing at the age of fourteen. As a kid I had struggled with reading and writing, but after discovering the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I started to write myself. I wrote mainly short stories at first and these were often about ghosts or had some kind of macabre undertone. In fact, Isidor’s ‘Penny Dreadfuls’ which I included at the end of Kiera Hudson, Kiera Hudson‘Dead Angels’ (Kiera Hudson Series Two) Book 2 were all written by me between the ages of 14 and 15. I included those stories as Isidor was about 14 when he wrote them deep within the Hollows, so I thought they would be quite fitting.

Just like Isidor, I continued to read and write and it became my passion. I was taught to read by a dear friend, who just like Melody Rose, sat with me for hours and hours as I tried to make sense of the words.

I wrote poems, books and plays all the way through college, although I never tried to get any of my work published at that time. I didn’t have the confidence in myself or my writing. Shoot forward in time twenty or more years, and it wasn’t until my wife pulled a huge box from beneath the stairs and asked, “Tim what’s the point in writing all this stuff if you never share it with anyone?”, that I thought perhaps she had a point. I spent the next few years sending my work out to publishers and agents but without success. It wasn’t until I had written the first ‘Doorways’ book and ‘Black Hill Farm’ book that I decided I wouldn’t send them out to publishers or agents but publish them myself on Amazon. I remember thinking to myself as I hit the upload button on Amazon, that I would be happy if I sold 50 books. To my surprise, I sold more than that. Kiera HudsonBut it wasn’t until I wrote the first Kiera Hudson book (Vampire Shift) that things really changed for me. That book sold really well and still does two years later. Kiera Hudson seemed to connect with people. I get more emails about Kiera then any of my other characters. People really seem to love the character and identify with her on some level. I think it’s because Kiera struggles and each of us do that every single day one way or another.

It’s kind of odd because as a teenager I remember reading that Conan Doyle got tired of writing about Sherlock Holmes – so much so that he killed Holmes off in ‘The Final Problem’. At the time there was a public outcry demanding that Holmes be bought back to life. Kiera HudsonNow, I’ve not had anything like that and I wouldn’t compare my writing or characters to those created by the genius Conan Doyle, but when I let it be known that there wouldn’t be any more Kiera Hudson books after ‘Vampire Hollows (Kiera Hudson Series One) Book 5, I did get my fair share of emails asking me to write more Kiera books. It was then I realised how fond and attached some people had come to this character. So before publishing ‘Vampire Hollows’ I went back and rewrote the ending, leaving the pages open for more Kiera Hudson adventures. I’m now writing the eighth Kiera Hudson book in the second series and I’m very glad that I am. Unlike Conan Doyle, who really didn’t want to write any more Holmes books, I do want to write more Kiera Hudson books but only if I can think of great adventures for her to have. I do have a third series planned. But like Conan Doyle and his relationship with Holmes, there are plenty of other stories I want to tell other than those about Kiera Hudson. I have so many characters roaming around in my head that want to be let out, that’s why this year, I have taken so time away from Kiera, and written stories about some of those other characters whose stories I want to tell. I absolutely love writing about Sydney Hart and I have plenty more mysteries for her to solve – I can’t wait to start writing them. There is also Winter McCall and Thaddeus Blake from my ‘Moon Trilogy’, who I also love writing about. Thaddeus and Winnie are kind of special to me as I wrote the first draft of ‘Moonlight’ when I was 14. I’ve made some changes to the overall story but it remains pretty much the same. In fact, if you read the first draft it is virtually identical to what you read today – other than Winnie was originally called Frannie. Thaddeus had an identical twin brother in the original story, but that was edited out. Ruby Little was a new character I introduced and I’ve had a lot of fun writing about her.

In ‘Moonbeam’, I really wanted to explore Thaddeus’ back story as I knew it would impact on the rest of the series. Thaddeus is a mystery not only to the reader but to me also. He seems quite allusive not only on the page but inside my head too. I know Thaddeus’ story and how it ends in for him and Winnie and I think the reader will be more surprised by what happens than in any of my other series. Like all of my books, I have been dropping clues since ‘Moonlight’ Book 1 and even more in ‘Moonbeam’ Book 2. At the end of book 3, ‘Moonshine’, I’m hoping the reader will gasp as all the little pieces of the jigsaw slide into place. I’m hoping to have ‘Moonshine’ published by the end of the year.

Between now and then, I will be publishing ‘Dead Push’ (Kiera Hudson Series Two) Book 7 at the end of July, then I’m doing the rewrites for ‘Flashes’. Over the coming months I will be writing the second Samantha Carter book, ‘Dead Lost’ (Kiera Hudson Series Two) Book 8, the final ‘Doorways’ book and working on ‘Pick’ which is a zombie novel I’m writing with my son. There are some more surprises to come, but they wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you about them now!”

Spotlight on Sarah Colliver, Author of the Peggy Rodman Series

Lomogram_2013-05-30_08-32-48-PMA big welcome today to Sarah Colliver, author of the first two instalments of the Peggy Rodman Series, Echoes of the Past – Harry and Echoes of the Past – Eloise. Sarah has kindly agreed to share her thoughts on the inspiration behind her writing and tell us about her blog where she shares her photographs, short stories and poems with readers. Scroll down after reading this post if you would like to read my reviews of the Peggy series. Thank you. Tina 🙂 Now over to Sarah…….

Echoes from the Past – Harry” was my first attempt at sharing any story I have written. I was inspired to write it during the painful time after I suddenly lost my dear Mum and it helped me through the dark days. My relationship with Peggy developed and I continued writing about her using the area I live in for inspiration. The feedback I received was positive and encouraged me to publish the second instalment on Amazon.  Writing “Eloise” – the second part of Peggy’s story was a totally different experience from the first and as I wrote the unfolding twists and turns I was on a journey of discovery myself, just like the character I was creating.  I have recently completed part three, “The Lost Children” and begun a final fourth part. I hope to eventually bring all four parts into one novel eventually.  I tend to correct people when they say I have written four stories as in my mind they are very much one story but in three parts.

Having grown up in Surrey, moving to the Forest only 4 years ago, I am daily surprised and inspired by the beauty surrounding us. We remain determined not to take the spectacular views and changing colours for granted. The seasons here are like a theatrical show with the drama of winter; the dawn of spring; the emerald backdrop of summer and the gilded trees of the autumn. Each act never failing to take your breath away as you stroll through a part of the forest amazed at the changes Mother Nature commands.

I have two sons, like chalk and cheese, who are growing up before my very eyes; a supportive husband who still manages to make me laugh after 18 years and the other two members of our household are my Dad and our crazy beagle – Jess! We muddle along together and generally try and laugh more than we cry.

My hobby is creative writing and I’ve decided to try a more structured approach to it now that my boys are more independent, to see where it takes me. The main thing is I write because I enjoy it and am hoping to continue improving along the way. If anyone gets pleasure from reading my stories, then I am one happy lady!

If you would like to find out more about my writing, you can find me on ‘Facebook’, “Echoes from the Past – Peggy Rodman“- If you stop by I would LOVE to hear from you with your comments! I also have a blog on ‘WordPress’ where I post various items from photographs, short stories and poems to ramblings on everyday life, so head on over if you are interested! I am always keen to hear how people feel and relate to my characters, so please do let me know.

The Woman Who Floated Above The Hedge, by P J Hodge

I had overheard conversation on the topic but felt unable to examine the rumours from any rational point of view. Although it would amount to nothing elaborate, I had posited that the time required to conduct an investigation would be entirely wasted as, ultimately, the villain would soon be unmasked; more so, all my instincts pointed to the revelation of a scoundrel no more than a child or simple-minded adult (perhaps more than one) intent on concocting reckless mischief out of sheer devilment.

But no matter my opinion; for it is the past. Instead, I will keep to the facts, simply told, and begin with the events of the afternoon of Mothering Sunday, two years before.

We had returned from church, the sky a bitter shade of grey; and at the margins of the unploughed fields surrounding us, dark clouds threatened with torpid heaviness. I passed my hand behind her back to support her frame and she, in turn, shrank further into my side, taking pitiful shelter from the bracing winds. It was the first time in many months I had seen her looking this frail.

Beside us, and looking nearly to be doubled-over by the strength of the gales, were Mrs Bentley and her son. He too was doing his utmost to support his mother and make some headway upon the path.

Finally, having negotiated such inclemency, we arrived at the front porch of our cottage, the middle of a nestled set of three.

I bid good afternoon to the Bentleys and stepped through the iron gate, at the same time removing a few veins of ivy that had made their way through from the adjacent hedgerow. Here, I made a commitment to spend time remedying matters at the front of the house having just spent a season behind it.

A few hours passed in drinking tea and conversation, when at half past three we were alarmed to hear an awful banging at the front door.

My mother indicated that she would rise to answer the door, but I insisted that she should remain at rest and I should attend to the caller; though I was at a complete loss as to whom would be visiting at such an inconvenient time.

When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Mrs Bentley’s son and immediately I took note of his rather confused and distressed state. Holding his chest, he managed to find his voice and told me that I should come quickly to the house. Inside, upon the kitchen floor, I found Mrs Bentley, lying in a most unusual position, as if she had fallen backwards although, somehow, her arms had remained directly by her sides. With all the finesse of a well read scholar I set about searching for signs of life upon the unfortunate woman’s body. But there was little I could do, as I soon became aware of a great coldness that had set into her. I recall having seen only one deceased person in my life, and I can assure you that I felt decidedly queasy despite deference in the duties I had in assisting her poor son.

A doctor was duly dispatched to the house and thereupon confirmation came that Mrs Bentley had suffered heart failure. It was a shocking circumstance despite Mrs Bentley’s advancing years; and on such a day too!

That evening we invited Thomas, Mrs Bentley’s son, to stay with us. The situation was made all the more heartfelt by his insistence on persistently thanking us for our help in dealing with the day’s unfortunate events. Each time, I reminded him that it was the very least we could do considering the circumstances.

It was only through this close-hand hospitality did Thomas reveal a curious happening but an hour or so before his mother’s death.

He had been seated in the drawing room, reading a newspaper, when a sudden, awful shriek had attracted his attention. It appeared to come from the kitchen. Knowing the room to be solely inhabited at this time of day by his mother, he ran through the house and in that particular room he had found Mrs Bentley staring at the window, her hand over her mouth, breathing with such pronounced irregularity. After Thomas had helped her in taking a seat and some refreshment, she told him the source of her distress. Whilst examining the condition of the hedge from the kitchen window, she noticed a woman standing beside the garden gate. Not expecting visitors she wondered who it could be. Most certainly not her sister or a regular caller. For a time, she puzzled over this black-dressed stranger who stood as still as a statue outside her cottage. Finally, with the unpleasant looking woman having remained there for as long as she could take, Mrs Bentley ventured outside to confront her; but on so doing, the woman had disappeared into thin air. And the most awful of sights; returning to the kitchen, she had taken another look out through the window and there, to her utter disbelief, she had come upon a vision that brought a chill to her bones, wracking her frame with a sickening tautness: from behind the hedge, she had seen the same woman rising up, up beyond the height limited by human form, reaching and stopping at her waist, her arms outstretching to draw a shadow upon the hedgerow top; and with lips still, her eyes bore straight at her with such intensity, before disappearing once more.

I must say that I had been quite affected by the tale; it remained with me for a considerable time in undiminished intensity. As I stated earlier, I had taken some comfort in considering it to be the result of inconsiderate japery from youths; concluding in such darker an end that they did not dream to imagine. But despite this, I was to consider from time to time that it was, perhaps, something else.

My mother and I have now returned from church; the day a far improved version of that two years before. And even though through anniversary alone my mind does dwell on such troubles of the past, I have found the day to be one of joy, especially to have seen her in such fine fettle. And such command of her stick too; it had come to her aid several times throughout the service and she had administered its alleviating qualities with considerable deftness. More so, with the sun behind us, and a spread of warm radiance on our backs, her steps have been more robust and steadfast than for as long as I could remember.

I am back in the house now, having just prepared tea. On the table beside the fire I have placed our favourite biscuits. On the air, a little early blossom that I was want to bring into the house before we left for church. And now, with the clock not long past three, I settle down, dragging the newspaper onto my lap. The comforting glow of the fire soothes the eyes and undoubtedly, before long, I shall be assuaged into sleep, the paper falling to my feet.

As I listen towards the kitchen, with my eyelids struggling not to surrender to the seductive comforts of the fire, I hear the sound of plates: surely a little Simnel cake to add to the occasion?

But possibly more plates than one or two hands could adequately grasp. No matter, I will go to her aid as surely her womanly stubbornness will prevent her from seeking help in this direction. As for the shriek; mother gets so awfully upset when she drops things.

Freaky Folk Tales   A haunting we will go…

For too long we have told and retold colourful stories from overseas whilst neglecting the rich vein of tales that were distilled on these shores; the tales that once lived a lively existence on the lips of our forebears.

Our ancestors would be amazed at our advances, but would they not equally be astonished by how we seek our greatest thrills from wires and circuitry, an electronic buzz that distances ourselves from what it is like to step into the half-light, listen to the words of a stranger and be enthralled – and possibly a little scared – by the actions of our fellow man?

Maybe then it is time to look a little inward and re-evaluate our indigenous worth as a treasure trove of chronicles that revel in everything from the magic of dragons to the terror of a curse. If you agree, then it is then time to bid you a warm welcome – a welcome to the world of Freaky Folk Tales.

About the Author

PJ Hodge left London and came to reside in Hampshire armed with the collected works of MR James, Kate Bush and Nigel Kneale. He now trawls the dusky corners of the country researching folklore and writing short stories about shadows, shades and spectres. These form part of his own collected works, Freaky Folk Tales.

Author Spotlight – Shannon A Thompson, Author of Minutes Before Sunset

Headshot of Shannon ThompsonAuthor Shannon A Thompson has kindly agreed to stop by ARR Blog today to share with us the experiences that inspired her to become an author and her hopes for the future.  Shannon’s novel, Minutes Before Sunset, a young adult paranormal romance, has recently been published by AEC Stellar Publishing.  If , after reading Shannon’s post, you would like to read a review of Minutes Before Sunset, please scroll down. I can ensure you that the novel is an intriguing read and we wish Shannon every success.  Over to Shannon! Tina :)

Like many writers, I began at a very young age. I specifically remember writing short stories during “Read Allowed Time” when my fourth grade teacher would read novels to us. We were allowed to color, but I wrote, and fellow students asked me to write stories with their names in it, so I did, and I gave them as gifts of friendship.

I began fiddling with novels shortly after that, but I didn’t take it seriously until my inspiration—my mother who encouraged my craft immensely—suddenly passed away on March 16, 2003. I was only 11, but I faced my own mortality, and I became very mature. I realized life wasn’t guaranteed, so I chased my highest hopes immediately.

At sixteen, I published my first novel, November Snow, with Golden Eagle Publishing. It was a young-adult science-fiction novel, dedicated to my mother’s loving memory, and it was entirely based on a nightmare I had suffered from since my mother had died. As a much younger child, I often suffered from nightmares and night terrors (I honestly couldn’t differentiate between reality and dreams) so my mother had me turn them into stories in order to cope.

My latest young-adult paranormal romance, Minutes Before Sunset, is actually a result of the same thing, but it was a different series of dreams. I was in a very dark time in my life, and I had dreams of a boy visiting me at night—just to talk. He’d ask me about how I was feeling, what I was going to do next, and what my hopes were for the future. When I got through that dark time, the dreams were quite literally ripped away from my conscious, and I was distraught. Despite my happiness, I still wanted him as if he was a real person, so I created a story explaining his visits. And Minutes Before Sunset was born.

Now, years later, it was published on May 1,, 2013 by AEC Stellar Publishing, and it’s dedicated to my late roommate, Kristine Andersen, who passed away October 7, 2012. It is also dedicated to our other roommate, Megan Paustian, and the time we had together. Memories are timeless, and I love words because they hold an immortality that people cannot have alone.

Honoring my loved ones through my writing has been my biggest inspiration to achieve my dreams at a young age, but my followers are also. Every supporter encourages me on a daily basis, and I couldn’t be here without them.

I have two other novels in the process of publishing (both novels in the Timely Death series) but my ultimate goal is to give back. I dream of being able to support the arts in a way that I can help others achieve their dreams successfully but, mainly, passionately. If I could do anything, I’d love to open up a school where children can meet people within their art industry in an affordable and effective manor.

I want the world to embrace the arts as a beauty that has been discovered but has yet to achieve its fullest potential.

Mere EnchantmentWriting seemed like a simple idea. I had the story, & the ability to type, so what could possibly make it a challenge?

This question has plagued me for the last 8 years. What started out as a dream that I decided to write down has turned into a wonderful battle. Writing is anything but simple. Having an idea is just the beginning. Getting it to come to life for others to enjoy is something else entirely. After finishing Mere Enchantment and realizing that having it published traditionally was just not in the cards, my husband came up with the plan to try self publishing. For a long time I didn’t like the idea, thinking it would destroy my chances of being published “for real”.  After a while I agreed, and it has been a fantastic journey.

Self publishing is definitely not for the faint at heart. It is extremely difficult and requires hours and hours of your personal time and funds. Between marketing, publicity, and getting the book ready for the public, it is a full time job. Even with all this work, I’ve discovered my complete love for sharing my stories with the world. Thanks to social media, and big name companies offering “self-publishing” deals, my dream has been brought to life.

As I finished the final book of The Enchantment Series, I am understanding that the last 8 years I have spent among the land of Mere with all the wonderful characters have been some of my best. As I’m getting ready to say goodbye to those characters and move on to the next adventure I’m finding it bittersweet. Chloe, Preston, Megan, Jason and Zach have been a constant thought, always in the back of my mind, always moving forward.

Rings of Enchantment (The Enchantment Series, #2)The final pages of Rings of Enchantment were extremely challenging for me to write as I knew it was goodbye. With each click on the keyboard, my heart swelled with joy, but also with despair as I closed the chapter of my life that I’ve known for so long. I express my sincere gratitude too all the people that have enjoyed the journey with me, including all the readers and fans.

 Romantic Lyon and Teenage Crushes

As a student I once spent an unforgettable few months working as an au pair in the city of Lyon.  The time I spent in this beautiful city was one of the happiest and most romantic of my life.  How different this hot and vibrant city was, to the bleak Yorkshire town I had come from.  In the bright southern sun, everything seemed to me intensely colourful: the two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône, gliding through the city; the market stalls with their ripe fruits; the cypress trees; the street cafés and the night-life.  It was an intense experience, which stayed with me long after I left France.

When I came to write my first romance novel, The Silk Romance, I knew Lyon had to be the setting.  And it was easy to picture my French hero.  As an au pair, I lived in with my family, in a centuries old stone building overlooking the city’s old town.  In the apartment above mine, on the top floor, lived the most handsome young man I’d ever seen in my life.  Tall, tanned, with the most piercing blue eyes, a devastating smile and a confident way of talking to me whenever we bumped into each other on the shadowy stone stairs. Sadly, my handsome crush was engaged to be married, and so my teenage longing remained from afar!  But now I have brought my romantic Frenchman to life, and he has his own role in the form of Jean-Luc, the hero of The Silk Romance.

As for the glamorous silk industry, which also plays a large part in my story, many years after I left France I took a job in a woollen mill in West Yorkshire.  The weaving industry once played a major role in both Yorkshire and Lyon, but is now sadly a dying trade.  I thought it would be wonderful to revive Lyon’s once thriving silk industry, and so I made my hero the owner of one of the city’s few remaining silk mills, producing wonderful textiles for opera houses, theatres and fashionable people around the world.

And my heroine?  Sophie is exactly the type of female character I like to write, and to read about.  A young woman who is self-reliant, who has seen her share of tragedy in this life, who is compassionate, but not afraid of letting the hero know exactly what she thinks.

I hope you enjoy reading about my characters as much as I enjoyed creating them.  I was sorry to say goodbye to them when I put down my pen – so perhaps instead of goodbye, I should merely say au revoir, Sophie et Jean-Luc – et bonne chance!

Author Bio

Helena Fairfax was born in Uganda and came to England as a child.  She’s grown used to the cold now and that’s just as well, because nowadays she lives in an old Victorian mill town in Yorkshire, right next door to windswept Brontë country.  She has an affectionate, if half-crazed, rescue dog and together they tramp the moors every day—one of them wishing she were Emily Brontë, the other vainly chasing pheasants.   When she’s not out on the moors you’ll find Helena either creating romantic heroes and heroines of her own or else with her nose firmly buried in a book, enjoying someone else’s stories.  Her patient husband and her brilliant children support her in her daydreams and are the loves of her life.

The Wolfstone Curse is Justin’s first novel for Templar Publishing, and the research was sometimes rather ‘hairy’. Justin is not permitted to divulge how much of the story is actually true and how much based on supposition – or to reveal the real name and location of Wolfstone or the people (and were-people) involved.

When not tracking down werewolves, Justin has written for stage and screen as well as writing novels and graphic novels. He is the author of the popular children’s series The Invisible Detective, and for younger children, he writes Agent Alfie – about a school for the children of spies and secret agents.

Justin’s novel for older children – The Death Collector – was published in 2006, followed by The Chaos Code in 2007, The Parliament of Blood in 2008 and The Chamber of Shadows in 2010. The Skeleton Clock is available as an eBook in iBooks, Kindle, and most other formats.

The first novel in his adult SF series The Never War is due to be published by Del Rey in the autumn.

Before writing full time, Justin has worked in the computer industry, and as an odd-job man at a hotel exclusively for postmen. Justin currently acts as Creative Consultant to BBC Books’ range of Doctor Who titles, as well as writing quite a few himself.

Married with two sons, Justin lives and works in Warwick, within sight of one of Britain’s best-preserved castles.

Author Post and Bio: Beverly Ovalle, Author of Dragons’ Mate

Beverly Ovalle-001I didn’t really plan on writing eroticism, but it just seems to flow off of my fingertips. Nor had I originally planned on Dragons’ Mate being a short story. I was planning on a longer version, at least a novella. I was in no hurry. I was up late one night watching a movie on SyFy channel, probably involving giant reptiles. I just felt the urge to write. The first incarnation of Dragons’ Mate was born. As much as dragons fascinate me, I’m sure the movie had some influence!

It has undergone massive changes since I first wrote it.  My editor, Chris Keeslar at Boroughs Publishing Group sent me changes he’d like to see and a 6,000 word story ended at over 11,000 words!  Bet he didn’t expect that!  Then he smoothed it out!

I’d love to have a huge following (what writer wouldn’t?), but I write because the stories don’t like to stay inside.  Don’t be jealous ‘cause the voices talk to me!  😀

I never planned on even submitting any of my stories.  It was a bucket wish kind of thing I never thought would come true.  My brother asked me why I did reviews instead of writing my own book.  That got me to thinking.  I loved to write.  Then my best friend Tammie told me she was entering a writing contest and urged me to enter also. Urged, pestered, all the same among friends, right?

Having been beaten down, I finally admitted I had a story that might fit the guidelines of the contest.  I cleaned it up, tweaking it here and there, gave it an ending and submitted it.  I didn’t win.  😥  A few weeks after the contest ended,  I got an email and a contract to publish it.  I was over the moon!  It took another seven long months to see it published.  It felt like forever.  That may have been those darn voices again, but well, we all have our quirks!

Bitten by the writing bug, I currently have another shifter romance, a contemporary military romance, a Christmas romance, and a joint WIP with my best friend going on.  I have more, many more bits and pieces going on, but not all of them will ever see the light of day.  I keep going back to the four above so I will do my best to share them in the future.

Again, I hope you feel the need to see how Annie found love with her two dragon shifters.  She will be reappearing in Drake’s Destiny so I can get the rest of her story out.  Providing of course, that someone wants to publish it!

Author Bio

Beverly Ovalle lives in Wisconsin with her husband Edmond of 23 years and two Chinese Water Dragons. Having her own Dragons is expected as she is dragon crazy and anyone that walks in her house can tell. Her son Nicholas visits when he is on leave from the Marines.  Her daughter Susannah visits to grocery shop in the pantry and to see what might be cooking for dinner.

Beverly has traveled around the world thanks to five years in the US Navy and has worked for the government in one capacity or another for the past 30 years. Beverly and her brothers have travelled most of the continental United States as children due to the station wagon from Hell.  Still active with veterans, she is adjutant for her local AMVETS.

Beverly has been reading romances since her Aunt introduced her to the gothic romance in the fourth grade and is still reading every chance she gets.
